What is Macmillan English Campus?
Macmillan English Campus (MEC) is a comprehensive online learning environment with an extensive database of over 7,000 interactive learning resources. These have been specially designed to enhance English language learning at all levels.How is it structured?
When you are registered for MEC you have access to all activities at all levels. In order to simplify this, alpha beta piccadilly has developed some specific courses, so you will be automatically enrolled for:- a general English course at your level (A1.2 to C2)
- an exam preparation course at your level (A2 to C2)
- a business English course at your level (A2 to C2)
- a listening course at your level (A2 to C2)
- a pronunciation course
- Language exercises: Structured practice of key language points with immediate feedback, hints and explanations for language learners. Language exercises are linked to grammar reference units for practice and reinforcement.
- Grammar reference units: Provide language learners with useful information to explain and practice the language points encountered in English Campus activities.
- Listening: High-quality audio recordings with accompanying audioscript and full play-back control so that language learners gain maximum benefit and tackle specific areas of difficulty.
- Pronunciation: Activities to practise word sounds, stress, intonation and word-linking.
- Vocabulary: Exercises, including those on phrasal verbs, synonyms, prefixes and suffixes, designed to extend language learners’ range of vocabulary.
- Progress tests: A motivating tool for monitoring language development, the tests are supported by advice for language learners and suggestions for revision.
- Business: A large bank of business-orientated activities developing students’ skills in a variety of situations.
- Exam preparation exercises: Comprehensive practise exercises for the main Cambridge ESOL and IELTS examinations, as well as TOEFL and TOEIC. All materials have been written by experienced exam authors.
- Games: Vivid, motivating and highly interactive activities for students of any age or language level. A variety of games are available, including single and multi-level games.
- News items: News items are provided in a partnership with the Guardian Weekly and offer graded material relating to current affairs, with accompanying questions for discussion.
- Web project: Web projects offer language learners the opportunity of tackling authentic English via the Internet with supporting activities and open-ended investigations.
- Dictionary: The award-winning Macmillan English Dictionary Online provides over 100,000 references forming an essential component of the MEC user experience. Learners can check meanings, references and pronunciation as they work through activities, as well as copy entries to their personal wordlist.
- English for Academic Purposes: Over 150 individual activities specifically designed for language learners studying in an academic environment.
- Scenarios:Interactive scenario-based learning episodes that provide language learners with exposure to situations that they will encounter in everyday life.
