General Italian
The CELI exams evaluate the ability of candidates in general Italian, that is Italian used in social interaction and in educational and work situations.

At CELI Impatto level the aim is to establish whether the candidate has the necessary skills to make contact at an introductory level. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI Impatto exam are based on level A1 of the Common European Framework for languages. CELI 1 |
At level 1 (CELI 1) the candidate should have the necessay linguistic skills to 'survive' in Italian, that is to be able to start to integrate in an Italian speaking social and/or work context. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 1 exam are based on level A2 of the Common European Framework for languages. At level 2 (CELI 2) candidates have to demonstrate they have sufficient linguistic skills to be able to interact with ease in predictable Italian speaking social and work contexts. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 2 exam are based on level B1 of the Common European Framework for languages. At level 3 (CELI 3)candidates should have sufficient linguistic skills not only to be able to travel with ease around Italy, but also to enrol for a course or to work in Italy. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 3 exam are based on level B2 of the Common European Framework for languages. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 4 exam are based on level C1 of the Common European Framework for languages. The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 5 exam are based on level C2 of the Common European Framework for languages.
