General Italian


The CELI exams evaluate the ability of candidates in general Italian, that is Italian used in social interaction and in educational and work situations.


CELI IMPATTO

At CELI Impatto level the aim is to establish whether the candidate has the necessary skills to make contact at an introductory level.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI Impatto exam are based on level A1 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI Impatto is divided into four parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Listening
- Speaking
Time available for these two parts: 5/6 minutes

CELI 1

At level 1 (CELI 1) the candidate should have the necessay linguistic skills to 'survive' in Italian, that is to be able to start to integrate in an Italian speaking social and/or work context.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 1 exam are based on level A2 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI 1 is recognised in South Tyrol as being equivalent to the local bilingual examination D

CELI 1 is divided into four parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 2 hours
- Listening
Time available for this part: 20 minutes
- Speaking
Time available for this part: 10 minutes + 10 minutes preparation

Speaking
The candidates' ability to express themselves and to interact in Italian is evaluated by two examiners.

CELI 2

At level 2 (CELI 2) candidates have to demonstrate they have sufficient linguistic skills to be able to interact with ease in predictable Italian speaking social and work contexts.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 2 exam are based on level B1 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI 2 is recognised in South Tyrol as being equivalent to the local bilingual examination C

CELI 2 is divided into four parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 2 hours
- Listening
Time available for this part: 20 minutes
- Speaking
Time available for this part: 15 minutes + 10 minutes preparation

Speaking
The candidates' ability to express themselves and to interact in Italian is evaluated by two examiners.

CELI 3

At level 3 (CELI 3)candidates should have sufficient linguistic skills not only to be able to travel with ease around Italy, but also to enrol for a course or to work in Italy.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 3 exam are based on level B2 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI 3 is recognised in South Tyrol as being equivalent to the local bilingual examination B

CELI 3 is divided into five parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 2 hours and 15 minutes
- Lingusitic competence
Time available for this part: 45 minutes
- Listening comprehension
Time available for this part: 25 minutes
- Speaking
Time available for this part: 15 minutes + 10 minutes preparation

Speaking
The candidates ability to express themselves and to interact in Italian is evaluated by two examiners.

At level 4 (CELI 4) candidates should have sufficient linguistic skills to be able to sign up for a first degree or a postgraduate degree at an Italian speaking university.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 4 exam are based on level C1 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI 4 is recognised in South Tyrol as being equivalent to the local bilingual examination A

CELI 4 is divided into five parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 2 hours and 45 minutes
- Linguistic competence
Time available for this part: 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Listening
Time available for this part: 25 minutes
- Speaking
Time available for this part: 20 minutes + 10 minutes preparation

At level 5 (CELI 5) candidates should have sufficient linguistic ability to integrate themselves successfully into any Italian speaking context, whether to do with work, study or social life, understanding and using appropriate language, metaphors and idioms.

The linguistic skills required by a candidate for the CELI 5 exam are based on level C2 of the Common European Framework for languages.

CELI 5 is divided into five parts:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
Time available for these two parts: 2 hours and 45 minutes
- Linguistic competence
Time available for this part: 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Listening
Time available for this part: 30 minutes
- Speaking
Time available for this part: 20 minutes + 10 minutes preparation
